Freedom From Smoking® Program

This American Lung Association Smoking Cessation Program was started in 1980. It is evidence-based and up-to-date in all areas of research. Program highlights:
  • Facilitated by an ALA Certified Health Care Professional with the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center 
  • Eight 1½- to 2-hour sessions over 7 weeks – 4th session is Quit Day
  • Can be provided at worksite or other location, daytime or evening
  • 88-page workbook with exercises and homework
  • PowerPoint presentation along with educational videos
The program covers the following:
  • Education about nicotine addiction and its effect on the brain
  • Self-assessment of smoking behavior and group analysis of each individual’s behavior
  • The use of medication and nicotine replacement therapy
  • Stress management  and relaxation exercises
  • The effect of smoking on the lungs and other organs, including seeing actual healthy vs. unhealthy lungs
  • Weekly group evaluation and discussion of nicotine addiction
  • Withdrawal symptoms and support
  • Measuring carbon monoxide levels
  • Weight management and physical activity
  • Planning a smoke-free lifestyle
There are 6-12 individuals in each program. The cost is $50 per person.
