Common Venous Conditions

• Varicose Veins

  Varicose veins are blue or purple bulging, enlarged veins close to the skin's surface. They can be painful or itchy.

• Spider Veins

  Spider veins are a type of varicose vein that are smaller and thinner than varicose veins. They are often red or purple lines that appear close to the skin’s surface.

• Restless Legs Syndrome

  This condition creates a strong urge to move the legs, often due to an uncomfortable feeling in the legs.

• Sclerotherapy

  This procedure can treat varicose veins and spider veins. It is a series of injections to remove the abnormal vein(s). 

• Venous Ablation

  This procedure can treat varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency. During this procedure, a catheter is inserted into the vein to cause the vein to shrink and close.

• Phlebectomy

  This procedure can treat varicose veins. A needle is used to make a puncture next to the abnormal vein and a hook is inserted to remove the vein.

• How do I know if I need Vein Treatment?

  You may be experiencing some of the following symptoms: itching, swelling, fatigue or pain in your legs after sitting or standing for an extended period of time. • What are vein procedures like?

  Vein procedures are minimally invasive and non-surgical. They typically last about 30 minutes and we apply a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Most people are able to drive themselves home and return to normal activity within a few hours.

• Will my insurance cover my vein procedure?

  Most insurances will cover vein treatment as long as it is medically necessary. Most insurances also require that you do compression stocking therapy prior to obtaining a vein treatment. Our Vein Health program team will work with your insurance company to ensure your procedure is covered before scheduling any procedural appointments.

• When will I start to see results?

  Most patients will see and feel significant improvements in their vein symptoms in about two weeks.

• Do I need a referral from a doctor to visit the Vein Health Program at ECHN?
