Mammography at the Women's Center for Wellness

Did you know that in most cases you can choose the place where you’d like to have your mammogram? Whether you need a routine mammogram or a mammogram because an abnormality was found, ECHN’s medical imaging services can help.

The Women’s Center featured a state-of-the-art type of mammography called digital mammography, which incorporates modern electronics and computers with x-ray methods to produce mammograms with superior contrast resolution.

This cutting-edge technology may enable physicians to detect more breast cancers than with standard mammography. Although the positioning, compression, and look of the machine are about the same from a patient's perspective, digital mammography offers patients:

• Fewer retakes
• Lower radiation doses
• Shorter exams
• Faster results

The radiologists on the ECHN medical staff maintain an office in the same building that houses the Women’s Center, so results can be read right away.

Free Mammography and Cervical Cancer Screenings

To support early detection, ECHN provides FREE mammography and cervical screening services to financially eligible women. These services are made possible with the support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Connecticut Department of Public Health's Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, and the Manchester Chapter of UNICO National, which sponsors the Manchester Women's Breast Cancer Screening Program.
