ECHN offers outpatient Pain Management Procedures for patients with acute, chronic, and cancer pain.
Anesthesiologists David Heimbinder, M.D., and Duane Dixon, M.D., who have subspecialty certification in Anesthesia Pain Management and many years of clinical experience in this area, work closely with referring physicians to increase patients' quality of life.
A variety of conditions are assessed and treated through ECHN Pain Management Procedures, including:
- Complex regional pain syndromes such as reflex sympathetic dystrophy
- Back pain
- Cancer pain
- Occipital neuralgias (chronic pain in the upper neck, back of the head, and behind the ears)
- Post-herpetic neuralgias (a painful condition affecting nerve fibers and skin—often a complication of shingles)
- Diabetic neuralgias
- Nerve entrapment syndromes
- Myofascial pain syndromes
- Neuropathic pain syndromes
Procedures for pain management offered through ECHN include:
- Trigger-point injections
- Epidural steroid injections
- Sympathetic blocks
- Radiofrequency ablation procedures
- Cryoprobe procedures
- Celiac plexus blocks
- Interventional cancer pain treatments
- And more
In addition to assessing and treating outpatients, the department is also available for inpatient consultations at Rockville General and Manchester Memorial Hospitals.
The department will also be able to arrange for appropriate referrals for patients needing physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychiatric/psychological therapy, and pain medication management.
