When physicians apply to become members of the ECHN medical staff, they undergo an extensive credentialing process. This ensures that the doctors on our staff have the necessary education and training.
The physicians on the ECHN medical staff are highly skilled, well-trained, experienced, and capable. They are committed to keeping current on the latest advances in medical care and treatment. The vast majority of our doctors are board-certified in their specialty, which is an important measure of excellence, and many have earned additional certifications and credentials.

What does it mean when a physician is a member of a hospital's medical staff?
Once a physician chooses a location in which to set up a practice, he or she usually will apply to become a member of the medical staff of a nearby hospital, in the event a patient needs hospital care. Only physicians who are on a hospital's medical staff can admit and treat patients there. Joining a hospital's medical staff involves a credentialing process in which a physician's education, training, and experience are examined to ensure that certain standards are met.
The physicians who join our medical staff also have the opportunity to participate in the Eastern Connecticut Physician Hospital Organization (ECPHO). The role of the ECPHO is to improve the efficiency of the delivery of medical care and support a tighter and stronger medical community for residents of eastern Connecticut.
