Officers of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) Board of Trustees were elected at the health system's annual meeting on November 3, 2009.
Jeffrey P. Heidtman, of Manchester, was elected as Chairman of the ECHN Board of Trustees for a two-year term. Heidtman is President and CEO of Fuss & O'Neill, Inc., a Manchester engineering firm, where he has worked since 1975. He received a B.A. in geology from Southern Connecticut State University and his master's in geology from the University of Connecticut. Heidtman became a Corporator of ECHN in 2000 and a Trustee in 2003. For the past two years, he has served as Vice Chair of the Board, and prior to that position, he was Treasurer for two years.
Dennis O'Neill, M.D., of Glastonbury, is the newly elected Vice Chairman of the Board. Dr. O'Neill is a partner in Eastern Connecticut Pathology Consultants, which provides pathology services to ECHN. He received a B.S. in psychology from Seton Hall University in New Jersey and his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School in Newark. He is a member of the ECHN Medical Staff and is the Chair of the Department Pathology & Laboratory Services. Dr. O'Neill was a longtime Corporator for Manchester Memorial Hospital and then ECHN prior to being elected as a Trustee in November 2005. He has held the Board position of Treasurer since 2007.
Craig Lappen, of Manchester, was elected Treasurer of the Board. He is President of 21st Century Financial Advisors in Manchester. He received an AB in English from Ohio Wesleyan University and an MBA in finance from the University of Connecticut. Lappen is a longtime Corporator for Manchester Memorial Hospital and then ECHN. He was elected as a Trustee in November 2003. He is Treasurer for several nonprofit organizations.
Rebecca Janenda, of Manchester, continues in her role as Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Janenda is a Legal Assistant at Joel E. Janenda, Attorney At Law, in Manchester. She received a BA from the University of Connecticut. She has a long history of volunteer work and as a member of the hospital Auxiliary. She served a four-year term as president of The Auxiliary of Manchester Memorial Hospital and continues to be an active member. Janenda was an ECHN Corporator from 1998 until November 2005 when she was elected Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
In addition to officer appointments, Joseph Jeamel, Jr., of South Windsor, who is the COO of Rockville Bank, and Michele Conlon, MD, of Marlborough, who is the President of the ECHN Active Medical Staff, were elected as Trustees.

Kidney, CFP, of Ellington, a Financial Advisor/Assistant Vice President at Morgan Stanley; John T. Lund, of Ellington, Senior Vice President and CFO of Rockville Bank; Gene S. Mazur, of Manchester, President of the Manchester Community College Foundation; David Skoczulek, of Vernon, Director of Business Development and Corporate Compliance, Ambulance Service of Manchester and Aetna Ambulance Service; Richard Tkacz, of Enfield, Owner of Rich's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning; Wilson Vega, of Glastonbury, President of Connecticut Business Systems; Stephen R. Velardi, of Tolland, General Sales Manager for Connecticut Business Systems; Todd W. Whitford, of Somers, an attorney with Howard, Kohn, Sprague and FitzGerald; and Shahla Marvasti Zarinejad, of Manchester, Children's Librarian at the Rockville Public Library.
Corporators serve as community representatives to ECHN and are responsible for electing ECHN's trustees.
