da Vinci Surgical Robot Experience - June 11, 2013
Fifteen BACH members and guests took advantage of the opportunity to learn about and handle the controls of the da Vinci Si surgical robot on June 11. Linda Lemire, Asst VP of Patient Care Services, gave an introduction to robotic surgery and the program here at ECHN. She then escorted the attendees to an operating room that was set up for the demonstration. Guests did not have to “scrub” as a thorough cleaning would take place following the demonstration. The robot was set up with small objects on a tray for those who controlled the “arms” to manipulate. Everyone in attendance took a turn at the controls and was very impressed with the ease of manipulation and the 3D viewing of the “site”. OR nurses Cheryl Petrarca and Andrea Kotsch explained the procedures used and the roles of others on the surgical team, as well as answering all questions. The group was enthusiastic about the program and the opportunity to view this incredible tool up close.
