Volunteering at ECHN
Information about our hospital Auxiliaries
Each year hundreds of dedicated adult and junior volunteers give thousands of hours of service to ECHN. Some volunteers work directly with patients in our Patient Support Programs. Volunteers in our Ambassador Programs work in our Lobbies, Gift Shops, Concierge or Escort Messenger services welcoming patients and families and helping them navigate our hospitals. Others choose to work behind the scenes helping our administrative staffs.
Volunteers must have a desire to assist patients, their families and our community. Excellent customer service skills, compassion, maturity, empathy, objectivity, tact and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required. We request a minimum commitment of 60 hours of service over a six month period of time averaging about 3 hours per week. Junior volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Some positions may require junior volunteers to be at least 16 years old.
All Junior Volunteers need to have a parent or guardian’s consent as well as a school reference. Also required are immunization records and proof of one negative tuberculosis skin test within the past 12 months.
Adult Volunteer Program
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to fill out an application. Open positions are posted online or you can stop in at one of our facilities and pick up an application. If we feel we may have a placement for you, we will call you for an interview. If a suitable placement is available, you will be required to go through a health screening, a background or reference check and attend an orientation session. Position-specific training will also be provided.
